Update on June's Clean Up Day
The Holman Church clean up day has come and gone, with great results! The purpose of the clean up day was to improve the grounds and prepare the church for various restoration projects. Although the church grounds were once a thriving site (complete with the church, a convent, and even a school), it has since fallen into disrepair. The bones of the church are sound, but there are many cracks in the building that need to be filled, and it needs to be washed and painted. The church caretakers also hope to install a new concrete pad outside of the church and restore the inside of the church by repairing the choir loft and light fixtures and installing a new altar and pews. They will also have an iron fence and gate installed by local artist and welder, Leo Paul Pacheco.
The June clean up day consisted of cutting weeds, picking trash, and pruning trees. The improvements are small but noticeable and will make way for future restoration projects. The following is a message from Barbara Coole, mayorodoma (caretaker) of the Immaculate Heart of Mary church:
“The Holman Community is grateful to all who gave up their Saturday morning to clean up the grounds around our Holman mission church. Please note that this is only phase one and there is still more work to be done. Please see our website immaculateheartofmaryholman.org or ourmora.org for more information. God reward you all.”
The Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Holman will be hosting its second annual yard sale on August 29th. The yard sale will take place at the Holman church from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and all proceeds will go towards the restoration of the church. Stop by for some cool knick-knacks and collectibles!
