MCC 2021 Annual Meeting Recap

2021 Annual Meeting & Report

The Mora Creative Council held our annual community meeting on Saturday, April 3rd, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. This meeting included a scavenger hunt throughout our Main Street district and a virtual presentation of the plans for the proposed Mora Plaza and Veteran’s Memorial. Read on for a recap of the meeting!

We arrived at the parking lot of the Los De Mora Local Grower’s Cooperative (old Russell’s building) early to set up our tents and get gift bags ready for families participating in our scavenger hunt. We had plenty of candy, hot chocolate, stickers, toys, activities, and books to give away! This year’s event entailed finding 20 large eggs hidden throughout the Main Street district, from St. Gertrude’s Church all the way to the Mora Valley Ranch Supply. Soon, the egg hunters started flowing in, and we were elated to be able to provide a fun and COVID safe activity for our Mora families. At the end of the day, we gave out nearly 50 goody bags and countless books to our local youth!

In a separate tent, we had large poster boards with the plans for the Mora Plaza and Veteran’s Memorial, with sticky notes so community members could give input on the design. Here, we handed out newsletters with information about our upcoming projects and programs (below), including a proposed mural on the Hatcha’s building, downtown beautification efforts, and youth summer camps. There was also a virtual information session for the Mora Plaza and Veteran’s Memorial, where community members could join in and ask questions about the project. The presentation was done by Amy Bell and Ted Weber of Groundworks Studio, as well as Anita Moss, president of the Mora Creative Council. The presentation outlined the plans for the space, costs, funding opportunities, and proposed uses of the space. This project is a great opportunity to create a useable outdoor space for our community and honor our local veterans. If you missed it, you can view the presentation here.

We would like to extend a huge thanks to our sponsors, grantors, and volunteers who made all the work we did in 2020 possible! We would be nowhere without the continued support of our community. All in all, we had a great day creating memories for local families and presenting our plans and vision for the future of Our Mora.
